Maahinkaistanssijat performs dances reconstructed from historical sources, dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries.
Maahinkainen has been teaching historical dances since 1999 in cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä. The group includes staff, students, alumni, and friends of JYU. Some of the dancers in the group have started in recent years, while others have been dancing historical dances for decades.
